- Hi again,
-
- This is from another converstaion I and Doug have and this one might be of
- some intereset to. :-)
-
-
- e> I realy hope that we can stay together on this as it would make it
- e> much better I think. I don't like the idea of you doing a version of
- e> your own, but if that is the only way to get it finnished, I can live
- e> with that. :-)
-
- I don't really mind who does what - this is a PD 'freeware' project and I
- don't want to get into 'serious' hassles with it - I just want to mess
- about with the bits I enjoy and hopefully produce something useful. I'd
- like to do as much of the display engine as possible, and then hand it over
- to let them do the game and sprites and sound etc. If I am to be adding
- texturemapping, I have to actually do MOST of the 3D, since perspected
- texturemapping is not something you can just throw in at a later date.
- Everything has to be designed to accept the mapping from the ground up.
- This is why I can't add mapping to the version Laurent is working on -the
- accuracy is far too low and will look dreadful.
-
- I either do it correctly, or it's not worth the effort at all!
-
- :)
-
- e> When do you think you will have a demo ready? Can you mail it to me
-
- I have a demo ready now - but it's just a much faster and less buggy
- version of what you have seen already. The program will have to be rebuilt
- from scratch before the mapping goes in, so I'm spending my time speeding
- up the flat-shaded version and rewriting it in my own style. This lets me
- learn how it works much more quickly than trying to produce a final version
- straight away.
-
- The version I am currently working on will be scrapped when I have
- rewritten all of it, and I will begin a final version after this.
-
- I know this all sounds a bit strange, but the best way to understand a
- program is to clone it by hand!
-
- e> from Titan as soon as it is ready, so I can mail it to the mailing
- e> list. I think this would get the project rolling much faster. :-)
-
- Ok, but don't expect texturemapping for quite a while. It's not ready for
- that yet - loads of things needing done!
-
- e> Laurent would have deleted all the c-code by now and have also added
- e> the map.
- e> I think Johan have some code to read the textures in the WAD file as
- e> well.
-
- Ok, but I don't think it's a good idea to texturemap the current version of
- the demo. This demo has not been designed properly for speed and the results
- would be SLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW!
-
- It needs to be converted to DSP first.
-
- e> if you could send a version to the others as soon as you have anything ready.
-
- Yes, but I'll wait until I have done all I can with this version first. I
- would also like to see an executable version of the original (not optimised
- or disassembled), as there are a couple of glitches that are puzzling me
- and I want to know if they are present in the original version.
-
- e> As I have already said, I'm looking very much forward to see something
- e> from you soon. :-)
-
- Ok. I just wish I could work out where those strange bugs in the roof &
- floor are coming from. It only happens with certain WAD files, and only at
- very specific places - and they appear very consistent.
-
- There might be something wrong with the drawing algorithm (it's a nightmare
- to decode, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some freaky bugs
- lurking in there).
-
- e> Keep, coding!
-
- I'm spending most nights awake just working on this!
-
- (So is Dave Murphy!)
-
- :)
-
- Doug.
